Why no red makeup around the eyes?

I was recently applying some red makeup to test some different looks for videos I like to make, and I read that you're not supposed to put red makeup around your eyes (go figure) After washing it off, there are no visible differences between my eyes and their vision. Why the warning? and is there something without the risk of whatever that I can put around my eyes for a dramatic effect? Why no red makeup around the eyes?
I think the warning is. it wont help your apperance it makes people look dead. Why no red makeup around the eyes?
Good question!

I recently asked the make-up artist at my favorite counter the same question, and this is what she said: The red pigments in the shadow can irritate some peoples' eyes, if you tend towards sensitive eyes, this could be the case with you. It's similar with purple shadows that also have red pigments in them.

But mostly, it's because the red coloring tends to make you look tired and bloodshot. It's not a very attractive look...
First of all, do go with what you want. Those 'do's' and 'dont's' you read online are all meant to grab individual's attention, all for the purpose of advertising and makin money. Just like those '10 new sex..moves...will make you..***?' magazines. All to spend money. Them, to make money.

Second, my answer to your question. If youre doing it for films or anything art-sy like related, do it! Only reason its not recommended to apply red around your eyes, is because from an attractive-sexy-hot-cute-handsome point of view...well it just doesnt look right. All of that personality-psychology-eye-contact stuff are in it, why its not recommended.
its not so much a health risk as it is a makeup ';don't';

people think it gives an unhealthy look.

but if its the right shade of red, and applied correctly it can be very classy and dramatic.
You can use red eye makeup, it just tends to make your eyes look bloody. If you like it, wear it!

I don't think that are any risks with wearing red eye make-up except it will make you look weird and your eyes will look bloodshot red. You can however try blue eye shadow which is very trendy this season.
I doubt it's a safely hazzard. You're not supposed to wear red eyemakeup because it can make you look alternately high, sick, or like you just finished crying.
It's just that it makes you look really sleepy and sometimes drugged.

I think it means like red eyeliner though.

I've seen red eyeshadow or something done really well.
there is nothing medically wrong with using red makeup around your eyes, people just dont think it looks good.

Personally if you can pull it off i think you should go for it.
well, i wouldnt recommend using red anyways because it tends to make your eye look gross like its infected or you're on crack or something lol
Because when most people use red eyeliner, it makes 'em look like a stoner.
it doesnt effect you physically but it just makes you look like a zombie/emo
dont put red cuz it looks kinda bad...like u have an infectted eye or something...
No health risk, it just looks bad on some people.
the warning is there so people don't think your high, uber allergic, or got punched in the face.
makes you look bloodshot and high
i think there is no problem applying red makeup around the eye. maybe it doesnt come of sometimes maybe thats the warning
try a bright green and/or blue. red tends to make ppl look like they have pink eye or....something along that route.
the makeup companies are stalking you and know when you look bad.
i don't know,

i just think it makes you look bad with red eye make up but i dunno

xo
it'll make your eyes look puffy
i think its cause it makes you look tired
cause ill piss in your face
